About our special guest:
Grammy-nominated composer Missy Mazzoli was the Mead Composer-in-Residence at the Chicago Symphony Orchestra from 2018 to 2021. Her music has been performed all over the world by the Kronos Quartet, pianist Emanuel Ax, the LA Philharmonic, and many others. In 2018, the same year she was nominated for a Grammy for “Best Classical Composition,” she made history when she became one of the two first women to be commissioned by the Metropolitan Opera. Mazzoli is also co-founder of Luna Composition Lab, a mentorship program and support network for female, non-binary and gender nonconforming composers ages 12-18.

About Third Coast Percussion:
Third Coast Percussion (Sean Connors, Robert Dillon, Peter Martin, David Skidmore) is a GRAMMY® Award-winning Chicago-based percussion quartet and GRAMMY®-nominated composer collective. Through innovative performances, empowering education programs, and thoughtful collaborations, the ensemble creates exciting and unexpected musical experiences that inspire and educate thousands of fans each year.

Missy Mazzoli’s Millennium Canticles was commissioned by Third Coast Percussion with lead support from Elizabeth and Justus Schlichting, and additional support from Bruce Oltman, the Third Coast Percussion New Works Fund, and the Maxine and Stuart Frankel Foundation.
